Formal & Social

Not Just Your Typical Prom

Steeped in rich Annapolis traditions, the annual formal is an unforgettable evening of elegance, grace, beauty, and fun!  A formal black tie affair, the gentlemen arrive dressed to the nines in black and white tuxedos and escort the dazzlingly dressed ladies to mix and mingle with polite conversation and “mocktales.”  A seven course meal follows with a dinner program including speeches and toasts from one class to the next.  Things heat up when students hit the dance floor for ballroom dancing including swing, cha-cha, waltz, fox trot, and much more.  Far from uncomfortable, awkward, and uncertain of how to act, Annapolis students begin training in the early spring for this event with etiquette and ballroom dancing lessons.  The result is that Annapolis students are well prepared for the “rigors of polite society,” displaying the poise, grace, manners and social consciousness that are the hallmarks of civilization and the result of an Annapolis education.
