Always and Forever: God’s Promise to Us

Promises are made to never be broken. Sometimes people break promises, but that should not change what a promise is, what a true promise is all about. When Jesus makes a promise you can know he will never break it.

The past few weeks we have been talking about promises from God and today we are looking at a promise he made to all of us. Matthew 28:19-20 says, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

We will look at verse 20 first, which says, “And behold I am with you always…” Jesus is saying this to his disciples and followers and to us as well. He is saying he will always be with you.

Have you ever been scared? Really scared? Have you ever been to a place where maybe it was dark, really dark or there were strangers and people you didn’t know–or worse, what if there were spiders? I know Mrs. Garcia is very scared of spiders!

Now imagine this place and you are there all alone. Now imagine that same scary place with your father or mother or big brother or sister with you. You wouldn’t be that scared anymore because you were with someone who could protect you from the dark, or strangers, or even spiders!

Now let’s get back to reality. In verse 19 Jesus says… “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.”

Imagine how scared the disciples would be going on dangerous trips and long journeys to places where they would be looked at as enemies. Imagine the fear knowing they would have to preach and teach and make disciples to people who might want to be mean to them or mistreat them or make fun of them.

But you know what? The disciples and followers of Christ were not scared. In fact they went with confidence knowing that Jesus would always be with them.

Jesus went through death and is alive forever and they saw him and knew that Jesus would be with them even if they were made fun of, or beaten up, or killed. But what Jesus said to the disciples, he also said to you! Jesus went through death and is alive forever to be with you forever!

So know we can go out to all the world and teach them of the promises and love of God and know Jesus is with us always!

So today Jesus is with you!

And tomorrow Jesus is with you!

And forever Jesus is with you!

No matter what you face and no matter where you go and no matter who is mean to you Jesus is with you!
